2020 Ryder Cup: United States unveils new uniforms highlighted by awesome Sunday sweaters
Written by Luck Wilson on August 31, 2021
The Ryder Cup is fast approaching, and though the teams are not quite settled yet, the uniforms are. The United States squad released its uniforms Tuesday, and they’re very good (as they normally are). One might say that uniforms have not exactly been the problem for the U.S. over the last decade.
In conjunction with Ralph Lauren, we’re getting slightly different versions of what we normally get at a Ryder Cup. The photo below shows scripting for six days at the 43rd Ryder Cup, starting with Tuesday’s practice rounds on the far left and Sunday’s final round on the far right.
Friday’s look — blue with red stripes and blue pants — is awesome, and will be followed by Saturday’s camo scripting. Then Sunday is a red and blue top with a white stripe down the middle. My favorite part, though, is the potential sweater the U.S. team will wear on Sunday (see photo of Davis Love III below). Hopefully the weather will be crisp enough to need those because they are incredible.
Exactly who will be wearing these uniforms remains to be seen. We know Collin Morikawa, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, Justin Thomas and Patrick Cantlay are on the team. And we think Jordan Spieth, Xander Schauffele, Daniel Berger, Harris English and Tony Finau will all have spots as well. The 12th spot is murky, though, and could go to one of any number of different golfers.
Regardless of who it is, though, I could not be more excited about this Ryder Cup. The venue (terrific), the crowds (hopefully safely large!), the gear, the teams, the deep (and ridiculous) debates about who should play alternate-shot, I love every single thing about the Ryder Cup and can’t wait to see these threads unveiled on Sept. 24 at Whistling Straits in Haven, Wisconsin.
