The 2021 MLB season is three-quarters of the way through and MLB daily Fantasy players have honed their MLB DFS strategies throughout the season. Of course, young superstars who have consistently produced like Fernando Tatis Jr., Rafael Devers and Ozzie Albies are pretty consistent presences in MLB DFS lineups. But affording upper-echelon talent like that will also require you to find some more affordable options in the MLB DFS player pool.
Diamondbacks infielder Josh Rojas will continue to enjoy hitting in Coors Field on Saturday and he’s been scorching of late. Rojas has 11 hits in his last 23 at-bats with a homer and five RBIs, and he’ll be an undoubtedly popular affordable option with Diamondbacks vs. Rockies sporting a total of 12 at Caesars Sportsbook. Top MLB DFS picks for August 21, 2021
One of Engel’s top MLB DFS picks for Saturday is Red Sox pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez at $9,500 on DraftKings and $9,800 on FanDuel. Rodriguez carries an unappealing 4.97 ERA into Saturday’s matchup with the Rangers, but he has struck out 145 batters in 116 innings and his swing-and-miss potential makes him a high-upside play.
He’s given up just two earned runs in his last 16 1/3 innings and has struck out 24 during that span. His ERA has dropped by over six-tenths of a run in that time and he’ll have a solid matchup on Saturday against a Rangers offense that has scored one run or fewer in three of their last four games.
Part of Engel’s optimal MLB DFS strategy includes rostering Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman ($5,500 on DraftKings, $4,400 on FanDuel). The defending NL MVP started his season somewhat slowly but here we are in late-August and he’s slashing .300/.397/.519 with 27 homers and 70 RBIs.
Freeman leads the National League with 90 runs scored and he’s been absolutely torching the opposition of late. During a current six-game hitting streak, Freeman is 14-for-26 with three home runs, seven RBIs and eight runs scored. He’s also 4-for-14 lifetime off Orioles starter Matt Harvey with a home run and you’ll want to ride the hot hand again on Saturday.
