Cowboys 2022 coaching hire: Dallas signs WR coach Robert Prince, who has deep ties to Kellen Moore

Jerry Jones is rejoicing over news he’ll retain both of his coordinators for 2022. The Dallas Cowboys were thrust into the offseason in disappointing fashion on Super Wild Card Weekend, and before they could finish packing up their lockers to head home until summer, they were faced with the possibility of losing both Kellen Moore and Dan Quinn to head coaching jobs on other teams. But with the Miami Dolphins passing on Moore — his best shot at landing a promotion this year — and Quinn notifying the club he’d stay put, continuity now rules the offseason in North Texas … mostly.
There has been one change to the coaching staff thus far, and that involves a change at wide receivers coach. Adam Henry, who served at the position under Moore and head coach Mike McCarthy, saw his contract expire when the season did, and he won’t be returning to the mix going forward. He’s been replaced by Robert Prince, sources confirmed to CBS Sports on Monday, an assistant with deep ties to Moore.
That is, by the way, not a coincidence.
With Moore set to remain with the Cowboys, it’s clear Jones and the organization wants to better the chemistry within the offensive staff, and one way to do that would be to reunite Moore with Prince — the two having spent time together at both Boise State and with the Detroit Lions. Prince was the wide receivers coach at Boise State in 2011, when Moore was quarterbacking as a senior, and promoted to offensive coordinator in 2012 before heading to the Lions in 2014, Moore’s final season as a backup QB in the Motor City.

So in eyeing a new WR coach for the Cowboys, sources say Moore put Prince’s name atop his wish list and, upon learning the offensive coordinator would still be around for 2022, the team granted his wish; with the approval of McCarthy. Prince enters the fold ahead of a pivotal season for both McCarthy and Moore, one that will also be conducted under the shadow of Sean Payton, who is stepping away from coaching next season but is immediately the favorite to become Cowboys head coach if things go awry yet again under the current coaching regime.
Tasked with cleaning up what devolved into a disheveled showing by one of the most talented WR groups in the league — e.g., drops, miscommunications with Dak Prescott, etc. — Prince brings a wealth of experience that stems back to 1992, when he first became a WR coach for Sacramento State. He’s since split his career between the collegiate and NFL ranks, spending the 2021 season with the Houston Texans.
His move to Dallas will be a short hop, but a colossal leap in expectations.
