Des Moines school board election results: Norris, Alonzo-Diaz win

Des Moines Public Schools voters chose Teree Caldwell-Johnson (left), Jackie Norris (top middle), Maria Alonzo-Diaz (top right), Kim Martorano (bottom middle) and Jenna Knox to fill the five open school board seats.

Jackie Norris — a newcomer to highschool board politics who broke fundraising information within the Des Moines metro space — has been elected to the Des Moines Faculty Board. 

Her victory helps cement an all-female college board that can govern the state’s largest college district. 

The previous chief of employees for former first woman Michelle Obama, who additionally served as CEO of Goodwill of Central Iowa, raised $28,253 as a first-time candidate.
