Everton parted ways with manager Rafa Benitez, the club announced on Sunday. The sacking comes one day after the club’s 2-1 loss to Norwich City, leaving them just six points above the drop zone in the Premier League. The Canaries had only scored eight goals in 20 games entering the match but managed to find the net twice, albeit one was an own goal, and Everton could not respond in the second half as the struggles continues to the Toffees as of late.

The start to the season has been far from promising from the Liverpool-based club, with the Toffees currently having a 5-4-10 record in the league. They’ve lost three of their last four games and have failed to find any sort of stability and now sit in 16th place.

Everton Football Club can confirm the departure of Rafael Benitez as First Team manager.

Benitez, who joined Everton in June 2021, has left the Club with immediate effect.

An update on a permanent replacement will be made in due course.

A coaching legend at both Valencia and Liverpool, he recorded just a 31.8 winning percentage at Everton since his appointment in June of last year. That was his second-worst percentage of this century, following up his performance at Dalian Professional of China just before Everton. Everywhere else he had surpassed 42% and often much higher, even at Newcastle where he coached from 2016-19.
