FedEx Cup Playoffs 2021: Tour Championship picks, PGA odds, props, best bets from proven golf expert

Written by on September 1, 2021

The 2020-21 PGA Tour season comes to a close this weekend with the FedEx Cup Playoffs finale, the 2021 Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club. A $15 million prize and the season’s FedEx Cup title will go to the winner. Patrick Cantlay will tee off Thursday in Atlanta at 10-under par, holding a two-stroke lead over Tony Finau in the starting-strokes format. Cantlay surged to the top of the 2021 FedEx Cup standings on the strength of his BMW Championship win last week, while Finau won the Northern Trust two weeks ago.

BMW runner-up Bryson DeChambeau starts third at seven-under par, world No. 1 Jon Rahm is fourth (-6) and Northern Trust runner-up Cameron Smith (-5) rounds out the top five. Caesars Sportsbook lists Cantlay and Rahm as the 4-1 co-favorites in its latest 2021 Tour Championship odds, followed closely by DeChambeau (5-1) and Finau (15-2). Before locking in your 2021 Tour Championship picks, be sure to see the latest golf predictions from SportsLine’s Mike McClure.

McClure is a DFS pro with nearly $2 million in career winnings, and our proprietary model, built by McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed last June. In fact, it’s up almost $10,000 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

At the 2021 Open Championship, McClure’s best bets included Collin Morikawa winning outright even though he was listed as a massive 40-1 long shot. He was also all over Daniel Berger (+220) and Emiliano Grillo (+700) finishing inside the top-20. McClure’s best bets netted over $2,200 at the 2021 Open Championship.

In addition, McClure’s model was all over Jon Rahm’s (10-1) first career major championship victory at the 2021 U.S. Open. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the weekend, but the model still projected him as the winner. And at the 2021 Masters, McClure nailed Rahm’s (+250) top-five finish in his best bets, as well as Corey Conners’ (+550) top-10 showing.

This same model has also nailed a whopping seven majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the 2021 Tour Championship field is locked, McClure has analyzed the latest odds from Caesars and revealed his top prop bets. Head to SportsLine now to see the 2021 Tour Championship best bets

2021 Tour Championship prop picks

One of McClure’s top picks for the Tour Championship 2021: Rahm (-105) wins his head-to-head matchup with Cantlay. Rahm has been the far more consistent player — and the best statistically on tour this year. Cantlay’s performance at the BMW Championship doesn’t change that. Cantlay has three victories this season while Rahm has one, but the Spaniard has more than double the top-10 finishes (14-6), including five in a row. Rahm’s last five events include a U.S. Open win — his first major championship — and a T-3 finish at the Open Championship.

Cantlay won the Memorial in June, a victory made possible when Rahm had to pull out after the third round because of a positive COVID-19 test. The Spaniard had a six-stroke lead at the time, and Cantlay eventually beat Collin Morikawa in a playoff. But he hadn’t finished in the top 10 again until winning at the BMW. Rahm has shot 70 or better in 13 of the 16 rounds he has played since the Memorial, and McClure’s model says you should be confident getting behind him in this showdown.
