The wait for Kylian Mbappe’s first La Liga goal is officially over with the World Cup winner scoring his first league goals for Real Madrid on Sunday in their clash against Real Betis, bagging both in a 2-0 victory. He scored in the 67th minute of a goalless game through a play that started with Vinicius Junior running on the edge of the penalty area and spotting Federico Valverde nearby, sending the ball his way. Valverde then quickly and effortlessly flicked the ball towards goal with his heel, catching just about everyone off guard other than Mbappe. The newcomer then wasted no time making a quick run to goal, scoring from close range.

Take a look below.

Mbappe added a second to his tally eight minutes later after Betis goalkeeper Rui Silva fouled Vinicius in the box and conceded a penalty. The Frenchman took the spot-kick and scored, sending the ball to his right while Silva dove in the opposite direction.

The two goals were not Mbappe’s first for Real Madrid — that came in their UEFA Super Cup win over Atalanta last month. He started each of Los Blancos’ four La Liga games this season but failed to score in the first three, inspiring concerns from some but not from manager Carlo Ancelotti, who rightly believed the goals would eventually come.

The brace marks his first goals at the Santiago Bernabeu as a Real Madrid player but not his first at the stadium — he has two goals in three previous appearances when Paris Saint-Germain visited the grounds for Champions League encounters.
