Manchester City host Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday in a match that could prove to be vital for the former assistant at the Etihad Stadium Mikel Arteta. A defeat, even a heavy one, would likely not be enough to cost him his job but as he himself has said a positive result could serve to change the narrative around the beleaguered manager.

That will be no easy task. In the Premier League City have had Arsenal’s number for many years with eight straight top flight wins and six clean sheets from the last seven meetings. Here is how you can watch the match and what you need to know:

Storylines

Manchester City: All the talk around the Etihad this week was about the potential arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, who ultimately chose to go back to Old Trafford and join Man United after both sides failed to strike up an agreement. City are still in search for a striker, all while there had been speculation over the future of Raheem Sterling, Riyad Mahrez and Bernardo Silva. Gabriel Jesus making a move out wide may not help the striker cause.

Arsenal: A 6-0 win over West Bromwich Albion at least got Arsenal on the scoresheet for the new campaign after consecutive 2-0 defeats to Brentford and Chelsea. Notably Arteta was in a far better mood in his prematch press conference than might have been expected for a manager who is expected to be sitting in the bottom three during the international break.

He still seems to have the stomach for the fight. “For me, it’s the best experience I’ve ever had in football,” he said when asked if he was still enjoying managing Arsenal.

Prediction

There is a reason why Arsenal keep getting hammered by City. They are a dramatically inferior side and nothing has changed. Why should the results? PICK: Manchester City 3 Arsenal 0
