Matthew McConaughy’s Daughter Got Her 1st Acting Credit in ‘Sing 2’

Matthew McConaughey is one of the world’s most beloved actors, a star well-known for his laid-back persona and endearing Texas drawl. While McConaughey has been involved in the acting business for decades, appearing in everything from blockbuster movies to limited TV series, it is another member of the McConaughey family who is starting to make waves in the entertainment world.

As McConaughey recently revealed in a late-night interview, his young daughter has her very first acting credit in the brand-new animated film, Sing 2.

Matthew McConaughey voices the character of Buster Moon in Sing, which was released in 2016, as well as in the all-new sequel film, Sing 2. However, McConaughey isn’t the only one in his household who has a voice role in Sing 2. As the actor revealed in a recent interview with Jimmy Fallon, his 11-year-old daughter Vida has a small role in the movie as well. 

As reported by People Magazine, McConaughey told Fallon “Vida got a couple of lines in Sing 2. She plays a piglet who is scuba diving in chocolate, saying, ‘This is the best day of my life.’” Fallon laughed and told McConaughey “I mean, it is the best day if you get to scuba dive in chocolate.”

The role of the piglet is Vida McConaughey’s first acting credit – and although McConaughey didn’t clarify in his interview, it seems likely that the young girl has inherited her father’s love of acting and entertaining others. 

How many children does Matthew McConaughey have?

Matthew McConaughey is the proud father to three children in total, whom he shares with his wife, model Camila Alves. McConaughey and Alves first started dating in 2006, according to Insider, and two years after their first meeting, in July 2008, they welcomed their first child – a boy whom they named Levi. In January 2010, the couple had their second child, Vida McConaughey. Insider notes that McConaughey released a statement when his daughter was born, saying in part:

“‘Vida’ is Portuguese for ‘life’ and that’s what God gave us this morning … Thanks for all of your well wishes and prayers along the way, another blessed day, we give thanks.”

In 2011, McConaughey and Alves got engaged, officially tying the knot the following June. In December 2012, Alves gave birth to the couple’s third child, a son named Livingston. Although McConaughey and his wife work hard to keep their family life private, they do occasionally step out on red carpets together, wowing onlookers.

For fans, McConaughey’s dedication to his family is proof positive that he’s not just an incredible actor and humanitarian, but a stand-up human being as well – and one who is unaffected by the drama that sometimes follows a high-powered career. 

‘Sing 2’ is a brand-new theatrical release

It is unknown whether Vida McConaughey intends to pursue acting as a career, but if she does, she couldn’t have chosen a better starting vehicle than Sing 2. The sweet animated flick tells the story of a group of vocally-gifted animals and features a roster of superstar voice talent, including Taron Egerton, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Pharrell Williams, Halsey, and Tori Kelly, in addition to Matthew McConaughey as Buster Moon.

Sing 2 was released to theaters on December 22, 2021, and currently has a 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes – a sure sign that the film is both fun and heartwarming. Fans can currently catch Sing 2 in theaters as well as on the Peacock streaming service.
