MLB DFS: Top DraftKings, FanDuel daily Fantasy baseball picks, strategy, advice for August 31, 2021
Written by Luck Wilson on August 31, 2021
After getting hit by a pitch on Saturday, Shohei Ohtani will skip his scheduled Tuesday start but his bat will remain in the lineup. That bat homered for a league-leading 42nd time on Monday as the two-way superstar continued his MVP trajectory. Ohtani has also swiped 20 bags this season as he’s been a fixture of MLB DFS lineups. That won’t change on Tuesday as he faces Jameson Taillon of the Yankees, and Ohtani has two home runs in three at-bats vs. the RHP.
But with those season stats and that previous success against Taillon, Ohtani won’t come cheaply as one of your MLB DFS picks. Thus, rostering him means you’ll have to search for value elsewhere to stay under your MLB DFS salary cap. So, before locking in any MLB DFS picks for Tuesday, be sure to check out the MLB DFS advice, strategy and projections from SportsLine daily Fantasy expert Mike McClure.
McClure is a daily Fantasy pro who has won almost $2 million in his career. And when it comes to daily Fantasy baseball, McClure is at his best. Recognized in the book “Fantasy Football (and Baseball) for Smart People: How to Turn Your Hobby into a Fortune” as a top MLB DFS player, McClure’s proprietary projection model simulates each game 10,000 times, taking factors such as matchups and recent results into account. This allows him to find the best values on every site.
On Monday, McClure picked out Padres third baseman Manny Machado as one of his top MLB DFS picks on both FanDuel and DraftKings. The result: Machado went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored, returning 12.2 points on FanDuel and 10 points on DraftKings. Anybody who had him in their lineup was well on the way to a profitable day.
Now, with the 2021 MLB season rolling on, McClure has locked in his top MLB daily Fantasy picks for Tuesday. Head to SportsLine now to see them.
McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for August 31, 2021
One of McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for Tuesday is Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette at $3,800 on FanDuel and $5,300 on DraftKings. Bichette went 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI on Monday, his third straight game with a run driven in. He enters play on Tuesday on a modest five-game hitting streak with a total of eight hits over that stretch.
The second-generation player has been one of the best power-speed combos all year as he has 21 home runs and 20 stolen bases. He’s one of five players with at least 20 homers and 20 steals this year with a .286 average to boot. Bichette has also feasted off Baltimore pitching this year with a .310 average across 42 at-bats, so he’s clearly one of the top options for Tuesday’s MLB DFS lineups.
McClure’s optimal MLB DFS strategy also includes stacking Bichette with outfielder Teoscar Hernandez ($3,700 on FanDuel, $4,600 on DraftKings). Hernandez had a two-run double on Monday to give him 86 RBI on the season which ranks eighth in the American League. He’s had a breakout campaign and is on pace for 107 RBI after never having more than 65 in a season.
Hernandez gets a great matchup on Tuesday against Orioles‘ starter Keegan Akin (1-8, 7.26 ERA). Hernandez is 2-for-4 with a home run and a double in his career vs. Akin, whose ERA is the worst in all of baseball for pitchers with a minimum of 70 innings. Hernandez is a player having a career season who has a favorable pitching matchup, so you can see why McClure is all over him for Tuesday.
How to set your MLB DFS lineups for August 31, 2021
McClure is also targeting an undervalued player who is set to explode for huge numbers on Tuesday. The stars are aligning for him to return tournament-winning value and he comes at a price that won’t break the bank. You can only see who it is here.
