MLB DFS: Top DraftKings, FanDuel daily Fantasy baseball picks, strategy, advice for September 16, 2021

Written by on September 16, 2021

Major League Baseball has been without one of its best players in Mike Trout since May, and on Wednesday Angels manager Joe Maddon confirmed he won’t be back before the end of the season. In his stead, youngster Brandon Marsh has been getting more looks, and he’s been especially good over the last week. After a monster game against Chicago on Wednesday, he’s still one of the most inexpensive options out of Thursday’s MLB DFS player pool.

Over the last five games, Marsh has batting splits of .389/.450/.556, and on Wednesday, he had three hits with a home run. Marsh looks to keep his hot streak going against Chicago’s Reynaldo Lopez, who is 2-0 with a 0.90 ERA at home. Is Marsh worth rolling the dice on again on Thursday, or are there more solid options for your MLB DFS lineups? Before making any MLB DFS picks, be sure to check out the MLB DFS advice, strategy and projections from SportsLine daily Fantasy expert Mike McClure.

McClure is a daily Fantasy pro who has won almost $2 million in his career. And when it comes to daily Fantasy baseball, McClure is at his best. Recognized in the book “Fantasy Football (and Baseball) for Smart People: How to Turn Your Hobby into a Fortune” as a top MLB DFS player, McClure’s proprietary projection model simulates each game 10,000 times, taking factors such as matchups and recent results into account. This allows him to find the best values on every site.

On Wednesday, McClure gave out White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada as one of his top MLB DFS players. The result: Moncada rebounded from a quiet showing on Tuesday with a 2-for-4 performance from the plate and a home run. Anybody that included him in their lineups was well on the way to a profitable day.

Now, with the 2021 MLB season rolling on, McClure has locked in his top MLB daily Fantasy picks for Thursday. Head to SportsLine now to see them

McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for September 16, 2021

Leading McClure’s picks on Thursday is Philadelphia outfielder Bryce Harper, who is $4,500 on FanDuel and $5,700 on DraftKings. Although it’s expected that Harper’s numbers are among the league’s best, he’s been especially brilliant over his last six games.

In fact, in his last 24 games, he’s only gone without a hit in six. In the Phillies‘ last series against Colorado and the one that wraps up tonight against the Cubs, Harper has three home runs, two doubles and nine hits in 20 at bats. Harper has yet to hit a homer against Chicago probable starter Kyle Hendricks, but holds a .308 batting average against him in 13 career at bats.

Another key to McClure’s optimal MLB DFS strategy includes Houston outfielder Yordan Alvarez ($3,700 on FanDuel, $5,100 on DraftKings). Alvarez had a huge game on Monday night, when he went 2-for-5 from the plate with two home runs against the Rangers.

Like Harper, Alvarez has been playing above his averages over the last six games, and has two home runs, three doubles and five RBI over that span. In nine games played in Arlington this season, where the Astros take on the Rangers tonight, Alvarez has four home runs. That total is the second-most among all parks in which he’s played this season, behind only Minute Maid Park in Houston.

How to set your MLB DFS lineups for September 16, 2021
