Ne-Yo is out with a breakup anthem of his own, “Pinky Ring” featuring multi-platinum artist O.T. Genasis. The single comes just days after the singer confirmed his divorce from wife Crystal Renay, whom he married in 2016 and shares two children.
Ne-Yo says of the song, “When life gives you lemons, you make great-sounding lemonade.”
Besides lemonade, he also spills tea on his divorce. “I do not feel bad/ I gave her everything/ Now it’s onto better things/ I put that there on everything,” he sings.
He also reveals, “She gave back the wedding ring/ I turned it to a pinky ring.”
Earlier this week, Ne-Yo confirmed the couple were getting divorced on the Private Talk With Alexis Texas podcast. He said he’ll always respect her as the mother of his children and called her a “fantastic woman.” However, he admitted to dealing with “demons just like everybody else.”
“We realize that our demons don’t mesh and until both of us get a hold of our personal demons, it’s gonna be just difficult for us to stay married,” he continued. “With that being said, that’s that, that’s the end of that chapter, not the end of the book. Like I said, that’s the mother of my kids and I love her to death. We’re going to be family forever.”
Ne-Yo first broke out with 2005’s “So Sick,”, which went platinum four times. There, he went on to produce three No. 1 albums and a collection of hit singles, including “Sexy Love,” “Closer,” “Because of You,” and 2008’s “Miss Independent.”
He’s penned Beyoncé‘s 2006 breakup anthem “Irreplaceable;” as well as Rihanna‘s “Unfaithful,” “Russian Roulette” and “Take a Bow.”
He’s also written for Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Chris Brown, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, among others.
