New York Yankees’ lineup takes hit with DJ LeMahieu to IL

The New York Yankees are placing infielder DJ LeMahieu on the 10-day injured list with a sports hernia injury, manager Aaron Boone told reporters.
Boone told reporters that the decision was made after LeMahieu worked out on the field and took some swings before the team’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday.
Boone said it’s possible LeMahieu will be available for the American League Championship Series if the Yankees reach that round of the playoffs.
Right-hander Luis Gil will be recalled to replace LeMahieu on the roster, Boone said.
LeMahieu is hitting .268 with 10 home runs and 57 RBIs this season and leads the Yankees with 160 hits.
The Yankees enter Sunday’s final regular-season game of the 2021 season tied for a wild-card spot with the Boston Red Sox. The Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners trail both teams by just one game.
