NFL DFS, Preseason Week 2: Optimal DraftKings, FanDuel daily Fantasy football picks for Monday, Aug. 23

Written by on August 23, 2021

Trevor Lawrence isn’t the only record-setting rookie quarterback who will suit up in Monday’s Saints vs. Jaguars 2021 NFL preseason Week 2 tilt at 8 p.m. ET. On the other sideline will be fourth-rounder Ian Book, who won more games as Notre Dame’s starting quarterback than any other player in program history. Book is buried behind Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill on the Saints’ depth chart, but as we saw with the Saints last year, an injury at the quarterback position can throw everything in flux. Book will see a majority of snaps with the second and third-team offenses and is an intriguing option for Jaguars vs. Saints NFL DFS lineups.

Should you factor Book into your NFL DFS strategy as he battles veteran Trevor Siemian for the No. 3 position? And which NFL DFS picks from other positions will take the spotlight away from the quarterback in Jaguars vs. Saints? Before locking in any 2021 NFL preseason DFS picks for Monday’s slate, be sure to check out the NFL DFS advice, player rankings, stacks and top daily Fantasy football picks from SportsLine’s Scott Engel

In Week 1 of the NFL preseason, Engel had Eagles receiver Quez Watkins as one of his top picks. The result: Watkins had a 79-yard touchdown reception, and anybody who had Watkins in their lineups was well on the way to a profitable day.

Now, Engel has turned his attention to the 2021 NFL preseason and locked in his top daily Fantasy football picks for Monday. You can only see them by heading to SportsLine.

Top Monday NFL DFS picks for Week 2

For 2021 NFL Preseason Week 2 on Monday, Engel is high on Saints quarterback Winston. The former No. 1 overall pick came on late in the first quarter of New Orleans’ 17-14 defeat to Baltimore last week. Winston accounted for the Saints’ only passing touchdown as he finished with 96 yards through the air, one touchdown and one interception.

However, the interception wasn’t Winston’s fault as it bounced off his receiver’s hands, while the person Winston replaced, Hill, fared much worse. Hill led no scoring drives, threw one interception and should have had another had the Ravens‘ defender not dropped a would-be pick. Winston appears to have the slight edge in the quarterback race, so expect him to have another strong performance on Monday to further the gap in Sean Payton’s mind.

Part of Engel’s optimal NFL DFS strategy also includes stacking Winston with tight end Juwan Johnson. A big-bodied receiver in college and in limited snaps as a rookie last year, Johnson has converted to tight end for the 2021 season. At 6-foot-4, 231 pounds, the Saints hope to take advantage of his athleticism at the position as the team lost Jared Cook and Josh Hill in the offseason.

Early signs are promising with Johnson’s transition as he caught both of his targets for 71 yards in Week 1 of the preseason. That included a 33-yard reception from Winston and then a 38-yard catch from Book on the Saints’ final drive. The latter of those he displayed both power and speed as he broke two tackles and had nearly 25 yards after the catch. With New Orleans having both an inexperienced tight end group, as well as lacking depth at receiver, Johnson should get plenty of opportunities in his hybrid role on Monday.

How to set Monday NFL DFS lineups for Week 2

Engel is also targeting a player who could go off for massive numbers on Monday because of an abundance of playing time. This pick could be the difference between winning your tournaments and cash games or going home with nothing. You can only see who it is here.
