Why the Rams can cover
Los Angeles has enjoyed plenty of success under head coach Sean McVay, but they can take their performance to a different level offensively with Matthew Stafford at the helm. In his first season after arriving in a trade, Stafford is a top-three player in the NFL in passing yards (1,222) and passing touchdowns (11). He ranks No. 3 in passer rating (117.6) and No. 2 in QBR (76.6), No. 4 in yards per attempt (9.1) and has the league’s best sack percentage (2.17 percent).
Stafford’s favorite target has been wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who leads the NFL in receiving touchdowns with five. Kupp is a top-four player in catches (30), receiving yards (431) and total yards from scrimmage. The Stafford-Kupp duo is the biggest reason the Rams lead the NFL in points per drive at 3.28 through four games.
Why the Seahawks can cover
Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson is one of the best players in the NFL and keys Seattle’s offensive attack. Wilson leads the league in passer rating (129.9) through four games and also sits atop the NFL in averaging 9.6 yards per pass attempt. He is one of only two starting quarterbacks without an interception this season and a top-five player with nine touchdown passes. He has thrown a touchdown on more than eight percent of his pass attempts.
Wilson is flanked by two standout receivers in Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf. Lockett ranks in the top 10 of the league with 333 yards and 16.7 yards per reception, while Metcalf adds more than 70 yards per game. Lockett posted 1,000-yard seasons in both 2019 and 2020, with Metcalf breaking out last season with 1,303 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns through the air. Metcalf is also a first down machine, moving the chains on 14 of his 20 receptions so far in 2021.
