MLB DFS: Top DraftKings, FanDuel daily Fantasy baseball picks, strategy, advice for August 28, 2021

Written by on August 28, 2021

White Sox vs. Cubs on Friday night was tied for the third-highest total on the MLB schedule and MLB daily Fantasy players who targeted that game with their MLB DFS lineups and MLB DFS stacks were treated to some fireworks. The game provided 30 runs, eight players with multiple hits, seven players who drove in more than one run and 10 players who scored at least twice. Saturday will be another hot night at Guaranteed Rate Field, so should you let it ride with those lineups again or shy away with Lance Lynn pitching for the White Sox and Alec Mills on the bump for the Cubs?

The MLB DFS player pool is loaded again on Saturday night and finding value is the key to saving salary-cap space needed for high-upside superstars. Yordan Alvarez has four home runs and nine RBIs in his last seven games while rookie Wander Franco has scored at least one run in 10 straight games and both will be popular options for MLB DFS rosters on Saturday. Before locking in any MLB DFS picks for Saturday, be sure to check out the MLB DFS advice, strategy and projections from SportsLine daily Fantasy expert Mike McClure

McClure is a daily Fantasy pro who has won almost $2 million in his career. And when it comes to daily Fantasy baseball, McClure is at his best. Recognized in the book “Fantasy Football (and Baseball) for Smart People: How to Turn Your Hobby into a Fortune” as a top MLB DFS player, McClure’s proprietary projection model simulates each game 10,000 times, taking factors such as matchups and recent results into account. This allows him to find the best values on every site.

On Friday, McClure included Cardinals second baseman Tommy Edman as one of his top MLB DFS picks on both FanDuel and DraftKings. The result: Edman went 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs to return 25.7 points on FanDuel and 18 points on DraftKings. Anybody who had him in their lineup was well on the way to a profitable day.

Now, with the 2021 MLB season rolling on, McClure has locked in his top MLB daily Fantasy picks for Saturday. Head to SportsLine now to see them

McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for August 28, 2021

One of McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for Saturday is Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson at $3,500 on DraftKings and $3,100 on FanDuel. The former first-round pick has had a solid rookie season, slashing .255/.337/.410 with 12 home runs and 46 RBIs and he’s made strides in almost every offensive category from a 119-plate appearance stint in the bigs last season to 2021.

Carlson’s average exit velocity is up from 87.4 mph to 88.3 mph, his strikeout rate is down from 29.4 percent to 24.0 percent and his walk rate is up from 6.7 percent to 9.5 percent. He’ll match up with Pirates lefty Steven Brault on Saturday and Carlson has a .836 OPS against lefties this year and is 2-for-2 off Brault.

Part of McClure’s optimal MLB DFS strategy includes rostering White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal ($2,500 on FanDuel, $5,000 on DraftKings). A true three-outcome player, Grandal is slashing .203/.394/.481 this season with 16 home runs and 46 RBIs in just 252 plate appearances and his timing is already back after a long stint on the IL with a knee injury.

Grandal returned to the White Sox lineup on Friday night against the Cubs and went 4-for-6 with two home runs, a double and eight RBIs. The performance raised his OPS by 52 points in a single night and you’ll definitely want to continue ride the hot hand with Grandal in a series that the White Sox have dominated of late.
