Richard Sherman visiting Buccaneers as Tom Brady recruits former Pro Bowler to Tampa Bay, per report

Three weeks into the 2021 NFL season, Richard Sherman may have found his next home. Despite a quiet offseason, in which the former Pro Bowler was selective with free-agent interest before seeking therapy after an off-field encounter with law enforcement, the veteran cornerback is set to visit the Buccaneers on Tuesday. NFL Media reports that Tom Brady himself is recruiting Sherman to Tampa Bay, which has reportedly been among several teams eyeing the longtime Seahawks standout in recent weeks.

Sherman’s meeting with the Bucs marks his first official free-agent visit of the year, signaling that a contract could be on the horizon. The 33-year-old corner was last seen with the 49ers in 2020, when he missed all but five games due to injury. As a five-time All-Pro and No. 1 cover man for NFC championship teams in both Seattle and San Francisco, however, he would bring a wealth of experience to a unit decimated by injuries in Tampa Bay.

Bucs cornerbacks Sean Murphy-Bunting, Carlton Davis and Jamel Dean have all battled — or are still battling — injuries going into Tampa Bay’s Week 4 matchup with the Patriots. Dean avoided a serious knee injury despite exiting Week 3 early, per NFL Network’s Tom Peliserro, but his availability for this Sunday’s game is still in doubt, which is “one more reason they’re pushing to get a deal done” with Sherman.

Should Sherman sign with Tampa Bay, he’d likely be in line for an immediate role, if not starting reps on the outside, against New England.
