(NEW YORK) — Tropical Storm Debby is threatening the Carolinas and Virginia with major flooding as the slow-moving storm crawls north.
Here’s what to expect:
Tropical Storm Debby made a second landfall early Thursday in Bulls Bay, South Carolina, just northeast of Charleston.
Debby has brought more than 18 inches of rain to South Carolina and another 3 to 6 inches is possible in the state on Thursday.
After this second landfall, the flash flooding is spreading north.
A rare “high risk” for flash flooding has been issued from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Roanoke, Virginia, where up to 6 inches of rain is possible on Thursday.
Tropical Storm Debby will weaken to a tropical depression on Thursday afternoon.
The heavy rain and dangerous flash flooding will spread into the Blue Ridge Mountains, west of Washington, D.C., on Thursday night.
D.C. and the suburbs to the west of the city could see 4 inches of rain.
By Friday, the heaviest rain will be from central Pennsylvania to upstate New York. Flash flooding is possible.
On Friday night, the heaviest rain will reach New York City. Some flash flooding is possible but major flooding is no longer in the forecast.
